chromosomes are heredity carrier. why do we say so?

Chromosomes are the thread like structures heredity nucleus which carry hereditary information.The number of chromosomes are fixed for a particular species like humans have 46 chromosomes in 23 pairs.First 22 pair of chromosomes are called AUTOSOMES and the 23rd pair is called sex chromosomes as it helps in sex determination.Chromosomes can be seen rod like only when the cell is about to divide else they are always seen entangled mass of thread like structures.
Chromosomes are called heredity carrier because it has genes which carry genetic material called DNA(DioxyRibo nucleic acid).Genes are the units of inheritance in living organisms.It controls the transfer of heridatory characters from parents to offsprings(new born).
