Answer:

AC = 9 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

OB = OA = 17 cm  = Radius of outer circle

OM  = 8 cm

AM² = OA² - OM²

=> AM² = 17² - 8²

=> AM² = 289 - 64

=> AM² = 225

=> AM = 15

CM² = OC² - OM²

=> CM² = 10² - 8²

=> CM² = 100 - 64

=> CM² = 36

=> CM = 6

AC  = AM - CM

=> AC = 15 - 6

=> AC = 9 cm

ANSWER

9 CM

STEP BY STEP EXPLANATION-

According to question we need to find AC.

Also from figure,

According to Pythagoras' theorem,

OC²=CM²+OM²

10²=CM²+8²

CM²=10²-8² => CM²= 100-64=36CM

CM=√36= 6

Again in triangle OBM

OB²=BM²+OM²

17²=BM²+8²

BM²=17²-8²=> BM=289-64

BM²225=> BM=15cm

From figure we can see that M is the center point of AB.

AB=2×BM

AB=2×15CM

AB=30CM

Now we can easily find AC

AC=AB-(BM+CM)

AC=30-(15+6)

AC=30-21

AC=9CM.

Word Explanation-

  1. First we need to find to CM
  2. then we need to find BM
  3. Since BM is half of AB we can multiply it with 2 to find AB.
  4. Now we can subtract the value of BM+CM from AB and we will find the value of AC.
