There are four types of hydrocarbons.

A compound which is made up of carbon and hydrogen are called hydrocarbons.

Types of Hydrocarbons:-

1. Aliphatic hydrocarbon
2. Cyclic Hydrocarbon

1. Aliphatic hydrocarbon - it have two types.

(i) Saturated hydrocarbon - hydrocarbon that are bonded by only single bonds is called saturated hydrocarbon. it is for the divided into one category, that is, alkane.

(ii) Unsaturated hydrocarbon - Ek hydrocarbon in which two carbon atom are connected by a double bond or triple bond is called unsaturated hydrocarbon.
They are further divided into two categories:-
(a) alkene
(b) alkyne

2. Cyclic hydrocarbon - hydrocarbon in which carbon atoms are arranged in the form of rings are called cyclic hydrocarbon.
They are further divided into two types:-

(i) Alicyclic hydrocarbon - rings without double or triple Bond are called alicyclic hydrocarbons. example- cyclohexane.

(ii) Aromatic hydrocarbon - rings with double or triple Bond are called aromatic compound. for example, benzene.
