Question: Draw the graph of function f: R - {0} → R by f(x) = 1/x, x € R - {0}. Find the domain and range.

Answer:

Domain = R - {0}

Range = R - {0}

Step-by-step explanation:

f(x) = 1/x => y = 1/x

Based on different values of x, we can have different values of y. But for y would be not defined, for x = 0, as 1/0 doesn't exist. It means,

x can be any real number other than 0.

x 0.

Domain = all real no. other than 0

Domain = {R} - {0}

Domain = R - {0}

For range,

=> y = 1/x

=> x = 1/y, it says,

For x to exist, y must not be 0. As for y = 0, x(=1/0) is not defined.

Hence, y can be any real number other than 0.

y = range = R - {0}

Range = R - {0}
