Given:

dogs:cats=2:3

Let the number of dogs be 2x and cats be 3x

We get:

2x:3x

Now given there are 18 cats.

This means that 3x equal 18

3x=18

==)x=18/3

==)x=6

Now number of dogs is 2x

So;

number of dogs=2x

==)2*6

==)12

Your answer is 12

Hope it helps.
