1.What is Environment?
Ans. Environment means the sum total of
surroundings or additions in which a person,
animal, or planet lives or operates.
It is a combination of natural and man-made
phenomena.
2.Which are major components of the environment?
Ans. Natural: water, land, air, living beings etc.
Man-made: Roads, monuments, bridges, parks etc.
Human: Education, religion, family etc.
3.What is an ecosystem?
A system consisting of biotic and abiotic
components is known as ecosystem.
All these components in the ecosystem are
interrelated and interact with each other.
It comprises factors like roads, railways,
communication, buildings. Etc.
4.What do you understand by natural
environment?
Ans. Natural environment encompasses the
physical or non-living and biological or living
components of the earth.
Abiotic components include land, water and air
which make up the lithosphere, hydrosphere and
atmosphere respectively.
Whereas biotic components include all the life
forms present in the entire sphere.
The biotic and abiotic components of environment
keep on interacting with each other.
5.Which are the two major components of the
biotic environment?
Ans. Two major components of the environment
are plants and animals.
Plants require carbon dioxide and sunlight to
make their food.
Likewise human beings also require oxygen,
water, soil, etc. for survival.

7.What is Lithosphere? What is its importance?
Ans. The thin and solid upper covering of the
earth is known as Lithosphere. It is made up of
rocks and minerals and covered with a thin layer
of soil.
Importance:
Lithosphere is very important for all sorts of life
forms.
It provides food to all living beings.
It provides us forests, grasslands for grazing
animals, land for cultivation, human settlements
and other economic activities.It is a source of mineral wealth because all kinds
of minerals and metals are embedded in the rock’s
strata.
8.What is biosphere? What is its importance?
Ans. This is a narrow zone between the three
realm of the earth namely land, air and water.
Importance:
It is concerned with all sorts of life forms plants
and animals, microorganisms that live on the
earth and their interactions with the surrounding
environment.
