When the narrator sat again on his chair, there were no more sound of rats. Suddenly, something fell on the back of his chairwith a thud. He was horrified to see that there was a large black snake on the back of his chair.
The snake came on his shoulder and then coiled itself round his left arm. Its hood was spread and its head was hardly 3 or 4 inches from his face. The doctor was turned to stone with fear. But his mind was active. He started praying to god to save him. It appeared that if the god has heared his prayer. The snake turned his head and looked into the mirror. Then the snake unwound itself from the doctor's arm and fell down. Then it crept onto the table. Still holding its breath, he got up slowly from the chair and ran out of the house. He went to a friend's house and spent the night there.
