When an electric current is passed through a conductor, the conductor becomes hot after some time and produces heat. This happens due to the conversion of some amount of electric energy, passing through the conductor, into heat energy. This effect of electric current is called heating effect of electric current.

Heating effect of electric current :

In the heating devices like the toaster, microwave oven etc.... Have a a long wire inside them which is very resistive, it causes more resistance and also it has a high melting point and also it does not get oxidized easily. When the electric current passes through the heating device the long resistive wire causes more resistance, it glows red and this heat produced is called the heating effect of electric current.
