According to their function and operation, computers can be classified into analog
computers and digital computers. A third type, a hybrid computer, is one which
ustes both analog and digital functionalities. Hybrid computers are mainly used for
scientific or industrial applications.
Analog computers operate using data from the variations in a physical
phenomenon (eg, temperature, voltage or pressure of a system). Digital computers
compute using binary digjts (0, 1). They recognise the 'on' and 'off stages. They are
easier to maintain and store more data than analog computers.
