This plateau is unique in its own way in terms of its formation, location and shape. The Deccan plateau is part of the Peninsular Plateau. The altitudes range from 100m in the North up to 1000 m in the South.
The Peninsular Plateau is the oldest landmass on the surface or the Earth. It belongs to the Indian subcontinent in South Asia. Previously it was originally a part of the Gondwana land. This land extends from below the Northern plains to South of India above Western Ghats. It is bounded by the Eastern Ghats on the East and Indian Desert on the West side.
It was formed due to the breaking and drifting of the Gondwana lands.
The plateau consists of shallow and braod valleys and also some rounded hills (big and small).
The plateau is an important typical part of India. This plateau land is a stable zone. That is it is hard, is not drifting or is not sinking. There are forests in this region too.
This region is composed of many metamorphic, sedimentary and igneous rocks. This is unique to this plateau only. There are many minerals found in this region.
There are many live and seasonal rivers flowing this region and originating from this plateau. They are Godavari, Krishna, Narmada, Tapti and Kaveri.
There are very famous summer hill resorts and stations such as: Khandala, Panchgani, Ooty, Kodaikanal.
