The classification of Indian roads is based on 4 categories on the basis of function:
National highways: These are maintained and constructed by central public works department (CPWD) some of the example are golden quadrilateral super highway.
State highways: These fall under the state government joining the state capital, district headquarters and other important towns.
District roads: It joins district headquarters with other places of district.
Village roads: Connects village with neighbouring towns and cities.
