Basically there are 4 types of roads. below I am listing them on the basis of their capacity :
1 National Highways : These are basically 4 lane type roads and have large capacity. It connects the states to capital of nation. It is available in every state and city.
2 State Highways : These are roads which connect cities to state capitals. These are built exactly or little shorter then national highways.
3 City roads : These are roads which connect different cities to another state. These are short and generally 2 lane type roads.
4 Village or local roads : These are roads which connects villages to cities. These are shortest roads generally one lane or two lane. I wish it will help.

Golden Quadrilateral Super Highway
- Most of the industrial, cultural, agricultural centers were connected by the Golden Quadrilateral Highways
- The longest road project in India and the world's fifth-longest highway is this superhighway
- It mainly connects the metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi and reduce the distance between them
National Highways
- The state capitals, big cities, and important ports are connected by National highways
- There are around 87 national highways in India
- Two, four or more lanes are there in National Highways
State Highways
- The state capitals with the district headquarters are connected by State highways
- It links cities, towns, and many state highway projects are implemented by the government
- There are around 115 state highways in India
District Roads
- The major roads that connect the district centers are District roads
- It includes the highways, streets, roads, alleys, intersection improvements, sidewalks.
- The authority to build the district roads are the Zila Parishad
- The distance of the District roads are 632,154 kilometers
Rural Roads
- The Villages with the town and other rural areas are connected by the Rural roads
- It is present in the non-urban areas that connect the urban villages cities, towns across the country
