Solution:

it is usually seen that the clayey soil gets easily waterlogged despite of less rainfall.

This is because, the capability to soak water by the clayey soil is quite less and due to the small amount of water only, it gets logged.

In such regions, appropriate amount of sand and stones are used for effective water drainage.

Water retention in clayey soil even when the rain is not heavy can be attributed to two reasons

1) Clayey soil is made up of clay particles which are very small in size.

2) Water molecules get easily trapped between these particles leading to the increased water retention.

It can also hold more water particles due to the same reason which is another causal factor for waterlogging.
