Upon activation they differentiate into plasma cells which secrete large amounts of antibody. Clonal selection occurs when a B-lymphocyte encounters: Antigen : Antigen selects the few B-lymphocytes, out of many millions, which have cell surface antibody which best 'fits' the antigen
