Let's take a long pipe and firstly,

1. Dip it into a test tube with Caustic Potash (KOH) solution.

2. Dip it into a container with plants.

3. Dip it into a container with pyrogallic acid.

Observation: Firstly, the air (without oxygen) will pass through the KOH soln. and will absorb the Carbon Dioxide. So, the plants cannot do photosynthesis & the pyrogallic acid in the last container will not absorb any oxygen. This shows CO₂ is necessary for photosynthesis.
