If you move along the number line

right at a distance of 8 units from P,

the coordinates of the point will be 1.

If you move along the number line

Left at a distance of 8 units from P,

the coordinates of the point will be

-15.

I hope this answer helps you

Answer:

1 & - 15

Step-by-step explanation:

Co-ordinate of point P on a number line is - 7. Find the co-ordinates of points on the number line which are at a distance of 8 units from point P.

Number line is x - axis

Point P on number line - 7  is

actually ( - 7 , 0)

To find coordinates which are at a distance of 8 units on number line itself

only x co-ordinate will change  &  y will remain same

let say new point would be ( x , 0)

Distance between  (x , 0 )   & (-7 , 0 )    = 8

Distance = √ (x -(-7))² + (0-0)²

=> 8 = √((x + 7)²

Squaring both sides

=> (x + 7)² = 64

Taking square root both sides

x + 7 = ±8

=> x + 7 = 8  or  x + 7 = -8

=> x = 1  or x = -15

Co-ordinates of point of number line which are at a distance of 8 units from point P are  1 & - 15
