Answer:

To perform photosynthesis, plants need three things: carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight. for photosynthesis. Carbon dioxide enters through tiny holes in a plant's leaves, flowers, branches, stems, and roots. ... The last requirement for photosynthesis is an important one because it provides the energy to make sugar.

EXPERIMENT TO PROVE THE NECESSITY OF CARBON DIOXIDE IN PHOTOSYNTHESIS - DEFINITION

To Prove:

The necessity of carbon dioxide in photosynthesis.

Method:

1. Insert a part of the leaf of a destarched plant into a conical flask containing potassium hydroxide.

2. Potassium hydroxide solution absorbs the carbon dioxide gas from the air present in the glass bottle.

3. Leave the plant sunlight.

4. After few hours, perform a starch test to this and another leaf of the same plant.

Observation:

* Leaf exposed to the atmosphere are bluish black.

* Leaf exposed to KOH does not change to blue-black colour

Result:

* Starch is present in the green part of the leaf.

Conclusion:

* Presence of starch proves that chlorophyll is necessary for photosynthesis as it traps sunlight.

* This shows that CO_{2} is essential for photosynthesis, because the portion inside the bottle did not get the CO_{2\\} as it was absorbed by KOH solution. Thus CO_{2\\} is necessary for photosynthesis.

Reason:

Carbon dioxide is necessary for photosynthesis because the plants make their food only in the presence of carbon dioxide.
