nothing . it's just that coal is made out of remains of animals and plants living on the ground. and petroleum is made out of remains of sea animals and plants

Reason for differences of coal and petroleum are:

● coal is found at its site of formation as a strong and moderately unadulterated gigantic natural substance, while oil is fluid and moves promptly from its place of birthplace into permeable store rocks.

●Kerogen is the principle antecedent material of oil mixes.

● It is finely scattered and personally blended in with the mineral grid in oil source beds.

● Most coals are remainders of earthly higher plants, while the kerogen of oil source beds is commonly overwhelmed by oceanic lower plants and microscopic organisms.

●Most recognized oil source beds were stored in marine situations and most coals shaped under nonmarine or paralic conditions.
