Covalent compounds don't have a free electron or ion so they can't conduct electricity. Covalent compounds do not conduct electricity because they are formed between non metal atoms by sharing of electrons.
Exception: Graphite, an allotrope of Carbon is a good conductor of electricity (has a free atom)
