Mosses are confused with lichens, hornworts, and liverworts. The superficial appearance of lichens is similar to mosses but they are not related in any way. Hornworts and Liverworts are nonvascular. Hence, mosses got grouped with them earlier. A haploid gametophyte generation was the dominant phase of the lifecycle in all of them. However, at present, mosses are classified under an entirely separate class which, as mentioned earlier, is called Bryophyta.
