To perform any activity or work we require energy.
THERE are two types of energies:
1.Potential Energy.
2. Kinetic Energy.( by virtue of motion).

Potential Energy is the energy possesed by an object by the virtue of its position and shape .

P.E= mg

Examples:
1. Energy stored by water in overhead tank is due to its position

2. A Stone raised to a height poses P.E due to its position.

3. An arrow released by stretching of bow due to its change in shape.

4. A Stretched rubber band contains P.E due to its change in size and shape.

5.A hammer raised to height to fix a nail.
