Historical development of the atomic theory :-

(1) In 1803, John Dalton proposed that atom was indivisible and he proposed Dalton atomic theory.

(2) In 1897, J.J Thomson discovered the electron. After that Gold Stein discovered proton. In the year 1904,J.J.Thomson proposed 'Plum Pudding model go the atom' with electrons embedded in a sphere of positive charge.

(3) In the same year (1904) Nagaoka proposed a Saturn model of the atom with a central positive charge having a ring of many electrons.

(4) In 1911,Ernest Rutherford discovered the atomic nucleus. He proposed nuclear model of the atom which is known "Planetary model of atom".

(5) In 1913, Neils Bohr proposed a model of the atom with a central nucleus surrounded by electrons orbiting in fixed energy levels.

(6) In 1916, Arnold Sommerfeld modified Bohr's model of the atom. In place of Bohr's circular orbits, he introduced "Elliptical orbits".

(7) In 1926, Erwin Schrödinger proposed "Quantum mechanical model of atom".

(8) In this way,so many scientists put their efforts to develop the atomic theory.
