In present time, researchers are working towards more eco friendly chemicals for industrial usage. Biodegradable plastic is one such area of interests for them. The major advantage of biodegradable plastic is that it breaks down on its own in the environment. This is one of the major steps that can prove helpful in eliminating the plastic waste problems, as they can easily be added to heaps of composts. Further more, these types of plastics can also eliminate the need to accumulate the landfills.

One main point to consider here is that this type of plastic can easily degrade to form water and carbon dioxide in the presence of bacteria and other favorable conditions, within a short period of six months.

The material used for manufacturing these plastics is also made up of starch as main raw material that is easily degradable in the environment. This means that the plastic and its product can easily be degraded within the eco system.

It’s a common practice these days to use biodegradable plastics than non-biodegradable ones.

But this can help only when the use is within a limit, and the plastics are not deposited to degrade in landfills.

Proper degradation with air, water and microbes can help degrade them, however decomposition without oxygen in landfills results in emission of green house gases, and actually adds to more pollution to the environment.
