5.the great men who have trade on the golden path of success remind us to follow their steps to make our lives sublime ( beautiful or successful) just like theirs. they remind us that instead of losing heart after defeat, we should get up and get going.
the line explain the harsh truth of life, it's brevity and reality:" art is long, and time is fleeting" is the most appealing line in the poem for me as it reminds me how short life is and how much work I have at my hand. it gives a clear cut explanation of the brevity of life.

1. "mournful numbers" here refer to the people who complain about life being empty and void of all meaning.
life is but an empty dream is a failed comparison of life to an empty dream by some people. the feelings of belief and strength and courage are aroused in the readers mind after reading the given lines.

2.after this extract, the poet exemplifies the reality and seriousness of life.He give an advice about the past actions of ours to be forgotten andd the future to be focused on.

3. " Dust thou art, to dust thou returnest" is an allusion that has been taken from the Bible. this line gives the reference of the immortality of the soul. it is said that only the mortal vesture of the soul dies, the soul itself is immortal and cannot be destroyed.the figure of speech used here is allusion.

4. Bivouac is a temporary shelter for solders in a battle, a small temporary camp. by this line the poet mentions life being a battlefield, a temporary shelter for the soldiers. in their battle field, one should be a hero and face all the challenges life has to offer courageously.
