When a catalyst is involved in thecollision between the reactant molecules, less energy is required for the chemical change to take place, and hence more collisions have sufficient energy for reaction to occur. Thereaction rate therefore increases.Collision theory is closely related to chemical kinetics.

In this paper the quantum collision theory is applied to some bimolecular and unimolecular reactions for which a comparison with experiment is possible. First, the simple bimolecular gas-phase reaction H2 + H has been considered using the new collision theory rate equation (5).
