Colonies of yeast fail to multiply in water but multiply in sugar solution?why?

May be in sugar solution it gets food for multiplication while there's no food in water

Sugar provides energy for sustaining all life activities in yeasts. They respire from the sugar solution and multiplies. There is no such food source to provide energy in water. The bud of yeast cell can be seen rapidly in sugar solution.
