Combustion of coke is a combination reaction. CO2 is not a pollutant. Then why is combustion of coke harmful?

Combustion of coke produces a lot more than just CO2. There are a whole host of by-products that are toxic and pollutants. A few examples would include phenolic and other organic products, as well as cyanides, sulfides and ammonia.

Co2 in excess is harmfull. It leads to global warming and the combustion of coke releases harmful gases such as carbon monoxide which is harmful not only for the environment but also for all the living beings
