This is Ogden Nash's comical poem. It's written in ballad form. Belinda lives with her four dogs in a tiny white house. The poet says, all but the dragon, were very brave. Other animals have been described as brave and like bear, tiger or lion, but the dragon is very timid. They are attacked by a pirate. Belinda is asking for assistance. The pirate is rounded off by the dragon.
Explanation:
- The tale of a dragon custard is a ballad. It's a funny poem of a cowardly dragon named custard. Custard is Belinda's pet, a small girl who lives with her pets in a tiny, white home. She had a black kitten named ink, a grey mouse named blink, a yellow dog mustard and a cowardly dragon custard. The names of the pets are funny and rhymes with the poem. While little household pets such as the kitten and mosue are compared to lions, the dragon being a symbol of courage and fierceness is known as a coward.
- They thank him because everybody is saved by custard. But they eventually remember that because of his shyness they used to love the dragon. They immediately begin to say that they are braver and have been much better at coping with the situation. The poet has tried to say here that in the most difficult circumstances of life, even a shy person is the real hero.
- Ironically, the poem ends. Everybody continues to boast about their bravery again after the danger is over. Surprisingly, Custard, who faced the pirate like a hero, admits that all the others are braver than him. Therefore, it may be difficult to appear. And your reluctant competitors may not even understand your worth and true meaning.
