▶️ Life cycle of fern is Haplodiplontic. The plant body is well differentiate sporophyte having stem, leaves, roots and vascular tissue. It produces haploid spores inside sprongia borne over the Sporophylls. Each spore germinate to produce and independently living haploid gametophyte called prothallus.
▶️ Prothallus of fern is green autototrophic talloid structure which does not possess vascular tissue. It is picked to the substratum by unicellular rhizoids developed on the ventral side. The same side bears Antheridia and archegonia. Generally cross fertilization occur. It produce a diploid zygote that develops into embryo and then saprophytic plant body.
