Centrioles are hollow and cylindrical structures which are made up of microtubules.In plant cells,the polar caps perform the function of centrioles.

The centrioles lie at right angles to each other. The cartwheel structure helps it to perform the following functions:

. Intiates and regulates cell division and takes part in the formation of sprindle fibres and aster.
. Forms basal bodies of cilia and flagella.
