What is soil profile ?

A soil profile is a section showing the successive layers of soil which would appear if we cut straight down in the soil .

Soils are generally found in layers .They have four main layers as follow :-

Top soil - The top layer of this soil is very fertile as it contains humus , minerals , salt and soil moisture .

Sub soil - The soil which lies below the top soil is neither fiully weathered nor decomposed . It does not contain much organic matter and is therefore , not as fertile as top soil .

Weathered rock - Below the sub soil , lies the weathered rock consisting of large rocks and gravel .

Unweathered rock - Unweathered rock lies below the weathered rock .

Hope it will help you then
