Comment on the following statements: (a) Evaporation produces cooling.

(b) Rate of evaporation of an aqueous solution decreases with increase in humidity.(c) Sponge though

ANSWER :

(A) Evaporation process results in cooling. It is because the liquid which gets evaporated, draws the latent heat of vaporisation from the other particle which is in contact with it.

(B)  When the humidity remains high, then it is observed that the air possess more water vapours. Due to this, it shall not draw vapours of water in more quantity. Therefore, it decreases with the increasing humidity.

(C) Sponge is considered as solid because it has a defined volume and shape. It is compressible because tiny holes are present in sponge where the air remains trapped.

(D) It is because the latent heat of fusion results in changing the nature of the molecules.
