Answer:
I'll return in the new year
- The sonnet begins with what appears to be a sceptic idea, namely, travelling back in time for the New Year. Everyone is thinking about walking towards what appears to be a better future, but he wants to go backwards this New Year.
- He sets a few goals for the upcoming new year. He promises not to lie because he will not go forward, but he would rather return to the humble beginnings of human progress because there is more enjoyment in returning to that brilliant time of honesty.
- The sonnet has a sceptical methodology, but as we read it, we realise how the artist is hopeful in his own terms and needs to disappear from the intricate universe of misleads into a simpler life where truth triumphs openly.
