The process of Photosynthesis ( the process by which green plant manufacture their own food by sunlight, water and chlorophyll ) begins with the activation of chlorophyll. Animals cannot prepare their own food. They are either directly or indirectly dependent on plants for their food. For example a herbivore (ex- deer) eats plants and is eaten by a carnivore(ex-lion). Hence plants serve as food directly for herbivores and indirectly for carnivores i.e. through herbivores. Now, if their is no chlorophyll there is no photosynthesis and due to no food the plants will die. The animals which are directly or indirectly dependent on plants will also die due to lack of food. Hence animals owe their existence to chlorophyll which is required for photosynthesis and without chlorophyll photosynthesis cannot take place.
