common salts are actually ionic compounds formed by positive and negatively charged ions. they Associate into positive and negative ions only in water.._ve end of H2O molecule attracts the +ve end of the salt and vice versa..Thus ions becomes free and are available for the conduction of electric current..

NaCl is a compound.It cannot conduct electricity.It forms an ionic bond because they are ions.In molten state,the ions from compounds split up and form separate ions which can conduct electricity.
