He believed that education serves many functions within the society. Parsons was more like the development of the ideas of Durkheim.

They, however, held a slightly varying opinion about school. Durkheim believed school to be the means of societal values and norms transmission, whereas Parsons thought that family was the primary socialization of the child and school prepared them for future.
