Summer monsoon is what we generally refer to as “rainy season”. Heating of the Indian subcontinent during the summer causes a large scale low pressure area to form over northern India. This drives winds from the southwest towards the landmass. While these winds pass over the Arabian Sea, they collect some moisture and it rains when they arrive over land.
