Membrane trafficking refers to the procedure by which proteins and other cargo molecules are distributed all through the cell, and discharged to or internalized from the extracellular space. Membrane trafficking utilizes membrane-bound vesicles for the purpose of transportation.
In the case of the reversible step of membrane trafficking, Rab GTPases functions as the regulators to confer the directionality of intracellular membrane trafficking. While in irreversible step, fusion and docking are monitored by SNARE proteins.
