the bishop is an example of an ideal priest he stands for all noble qualities of head and hearts.he is extremely selfless and charitable he doesn't mind selling his estate and many precious thing to help the poor and the needy. he sells his salt cellars to pay her rent. he gifts his cherished silver candlestick to the convict so that he could start his anew.
in short, the Bishop is an epitome of the good . he is a caring brother and ab ideal priest. he is always at the service of the suffering humanity.

PERSOME is the Bishop'sister in the play she is practical and worldly wise she doesn't like excessive charity of her brother she knows that many people exploit him and ask for favour when they need none she is worried about the future of her brother she fears that if he goes on giving everything in Charity to others he will be left with nothing. that is why she doesn't like Bishop' selling his salt cellars to help an old lady pay her rent. she is upset that her brother is excessively magnanimous toward their maid , Marie and her mother
she is practical and materialistic whereas the Bishop is impractical and spiritual. she is narrow minded. the Bishop is extremely large hearted kind and generous.
