The atmosphere is divided into five layers. It is thickest near the surface and thins out with height until it eventually merges with space.

1) The troposphere is the first layer above the surface and contains half of the Earth's atmosphere. Weather occurs in this layer.
2) Many jet aircrafts fly in the stratosphere because it is very stable. Also, the ozone layer absorbs harmful rays from the Sun.
3) Meteors or rock fragments burn up in the mesosphere.
4) The thermosphere is a layer with auroras. It is also where the space shuttle orbits.
5) The atmosphere merges into space in the extremely thin exosphere. This is the upper limit of our atmosphere.

Here I have explained the six layers of Earth atmosphere.

Troposphere:

The lowest layer of Earth’s atmosphere that extends up to 10 km above the sea level is known as troposphere. Troposphere consists of weather, cloud, humans and other living organisms.

Stratosphere:

The layer next to the troposphere that extends vertically up to 50 km from the ground level is known as the stratosphere. Stratosphere consists of Ozone layer.

Mesosphere:

The layer above the stratosphere that extends up to 85 km from the ground level is known as the mesosphere. It consists of very thing air and low temperature that ranges to -90 degree Celsius.

Thermosphere:

The layer next to the mesosphere that extends up to 500 to 1000 km is known as thermosphere. It consists of satellites. The northern lights, aurora and the southern lights are found to be occurring in the thermosphere.

Exosphere:

The final frontier of the earth’s atmosphere is known as exosphere.

Ionosphere:

Not certainly a distinct layer but some series of region that lies some parts of thermosphere and mesosphere is known as ionosphere.
