Heterotrophs: Such organisms which are unable to prepare their own food and depends on other to obtain their food are kept in this category.

For example: cow, dog.

Autotrophs: The organisms which are capable to prepare their own food by the process of photosynthesis are called autotrophs. They are also called producers.

For example: green plants.

Saprotrophs: The organisms which depend on dead and decaying organic materials like plants and animals are called saprotrophs.

For example: fungus.
