Lets take the number be 100x so the number when increased by 5% => 100x +(5/100)(100x) => 105x and the number decreased by 5% => 100x -5/100(100x) => 95x. So the difference => 105x-95x=20 => 20x=20 =>x=1.

Hence the number is 100x=> 100(1) => 100. Hope it helps you.
