Answer:

There are many environmental issues in India. Air pollution, water pollution, garbage domestically prohibited goods and pollution of the natural environment are all challenges for India. Nature is also causing some drastic effects on India. The situation was worse between 1947 through 1995. According to data collection and environment assessment studies of World Bank experts, between 1995 through 2010, India has made some of the fastest progress in addressing its environmental issues and improving its environmental quality in the world.[1][2] Still, India has a long way to go to reach environmental quality similar to those enjoyed in developed economies. Pollution remains a major challenge and opportunity for India.

A satellite picture, taken in 2004, shows thick haze and smoke along the Ganges Basin in northern India. Major sources of aerosols in this area are believed to be smoke from biomass burning in the northwest part of India, and air pollution from large cities in northern India. Dust from deserts in Pakistan and the Middle East may also contribute to the mix of aerosols.

Air pollution caused by industries in Kerala and Himachal Pradesh

Kerala has about 640 industries that fall into the Large or Medium category. These units are primarily found in Kochi and are mainly in the private sector. Roughly 2.5 lakhs SSI units are scattered throughout the state's various districts. Nearly 600 large/medium-scale industries and about 2500 SSI units were brought under the consent regime of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act by the Kerala State Pollution Control Board. Stone crushers make up the majority of the smaller units.

The most significant factor in the overall decline in air quality over the last few decades has been growth in the industrial sector. Due to the state's growing number of cement plants, the cement industry is responsible for the majority of the emissions in this sector. There are 499 large and medium-sized industries operating in Himachal Pradesh, compared to 39,819 small-scale ones.
