Imagine some parallel light rays coming from your face into the spoon.

The rays from the top of your face bounce off the top part of the spoon that’s tilted a bit downwards - so the light rays are reflected downwards. The rays from the bottom of your face hit the bottom of the spoon and because the surface it tilted upwards - the light rays are reflected upwards.

At some point - maybe an inch or two away from the spoon, the reflected rays that are going upward and downward cross over each other and keep on going.

So if you eye is further away than a few inches, the light from the top of your face enters your eye and hits the bottom of your eye (this is an oversimplification!) - and the light from the bottom of your face hits the top of your eye.

Hence the image you see is upside-down.

If you move your eye much closer to the spoon (and this works better with larger, flatter spoons) you’ll actually see the image is the right way up - but much smaller than you’d expect - that’s because you’ve placed your eye close enough that the light rays haven’t yet crossed over.
