Similarities:

The central Appalachian coal belt contributed to the largest part of the coal generation of the region much like the Megampeta mining site which accounts for 98% of the country's barite reservoir. The mining in the sites has declined significantly over the decades due to environmental residue amongst other reasons.

Differences:

The Appalachian region is Rich in coal whereas the Megampeta mine site is a Barite deposit. The Appalachian belt has lost its production over the years because of the influx of finer coal. The Megampeta mining has been shut down due to the environmental hazard it had become with contamination of the groundwater the mining in the region has conferred.
