It's a loaded question but let me answer for you.
To explain, red Indians are the native Americans who dominated and lived in North America for thousands of years. It is believed they crossed over from Asia Minor, from areas such as Russia/Mongolia and China. In early times, there used to be a land bridge between Russia and Alaska, which is not separated by sea. However, their origin聽has been confirmed by their DNA tests as well as their physical features.
These people eventually developed a very distinct culture of their own, as the land bridge between Alaska and Russia closed down.
In terms of religion, the Red Indians were almost animists, believing in the spirits of the dead and respect for their elders and ancestors who they used to pray to.
However, not all red Indian tribes had the same religion. Due to the vast size of North America, every tribe had developed their own distinct religion which reflected their history and past. (Even today, there are 500 distinct tribes still in the US) For example, there were some tribes who would worship the Sun or Moon as deities. There were also numerous myths and legends which includes ghosts and spirits of the dead. A recent practice was the ‘Ghost Dance’ which was seen as a revival of ancient native religions in the early 19th Century.
To date, many native Americans proudly practice their ancient religion and culture in their own homes and areas.
However, the Native Population has practised in stark contrast to the White men who came over from Europe in the Middle Ages. A world dominated by the Christian Religion. White man believed Christian concept of Trinity, Jesus, his mother and the Holy Spirit. They prayed to them and had a strict belief in the Bible聽
This is probably the reason by the Native population were quickly labelled as infidels. This ‘label’ was used as an excuse by the early spanish and later English settlers to kill and take over the property and lands of the native people.
All the wrong the Europeans did in the early years, they found a good excuse by telling how these people were ‘savages’ and needed to be handled like animals.
A similar situation was witnessed in South America where the Spanish had reached by the 14th Century and within just 100 years and completed destroyed the local language and culture of the people
Explanation:
The Red Indians belive that religion is based on the cogitations of their old men, given them by the Great Spirit in solemn hours of night and the vision of their sachems. The White men belive that they must follow the decree of their written Bible as their religion.
