Wetlands have rich diversity and are ecologically sensitive. They are home to a diverse number of species. Wetlands can be of along rivers, marshy areas, swamps, mangroves etc. These make up 3% of India's total area. These wetlands are very resourceful in nature. They can be easily exploited for the economic gains involved . For example, these areas can be used for fish culture, paddy cultivation, for irrigation etc.
On the other hand, Himalayas due to its not so favourable climactic conditions the diversity is limited but also rare. Only those animals and plants that withstand these conditions have a chance to survive. Some of them are mountain goats, Himalayan alpine, snow leopards, musk deer, Kashmir stag etc. these species are unique to the snow covered Himalayas. Its soil texture, climate. temperature are different form those wetlands found in rest of India.
