a transition basically occurs when an element changes from one state to another, and the browser fills in that state change with a sequence of in-between frames.

animation is similar to transitions, but only apply to elements or objects within the slide. for example- text boxes or images.

Slide transitions are the animationeffects that are applied to whole slide whereas animation effects are applied to objects (text, shape, picture etc.) on a slide. For a slide you can have only one transition effect while each object on the slide can have multipleanimation effects.
