There has been a plethora of information thus far in the novel that has suggested that Raskolnikov and Ruzumikhin are meant to be seen as foils. In the beginning of Part 3, we see a difference in the two men in their ability to express themselves.
"Razhumikhin had the gift of being able to express his character instantly and entirely, no matter what mood he happened to be in, and people quickly knew with whom they were dealing.'" (pg. 192)
Razhumikhin is the kind of man that has no trouble opening up to people and giving a full and accurate depiction of who he really is. Raskolnikov, on the other hand, has great trouble trusting or opening up to people and his current actions caused by his fragile emotional state have made it extremely hard for others to read him. Though I believe that Raskolnikov thinks that by attempting to keep to himself he is protecting himself from getting caught, many people are beginning to question the cause of his illness and are beginning to recognize that any mention of the murder makes him distressed and faint.
