Similarities between Indian and American Democratic structure:

In both U.S. and India, there are Fundamental rights ensured to its citizens ie. right to equality, freedom, right against exploitation, freedom of religion, cultural and educational rights and the right to Constitutional remedies.

In both US and India, Government is have a bicameral legislature.

In both U.S. and India, Powers are divided among Legislature, Executive and Judiciary. To avoid the clashes between the powers of these three, a mechanism known as “Checks and Balances” has been maintained in both the countries.

In both U.S. and India Powers and decisions of Federal and Union Government prevails over the powers and decision State Government in cases of subjects covered under concurrent list.

Differences between Indian and American Democratic structure:

US has the Presidential form of Government, India has the Parliamentary form of Government.

US has a 2-party system, India has Multi-party System.

While the Lok Sabha or the lower house is more powerful in India, the House of Senate or the upper house is more powerful in the US.

US allows Dual citizenship to its citizens but on the other hand India allows a single citizenship to its citizens.

A Judge in the US can hold his post for life as long as he enjoys his good health, in India it is slightly different. A District judge unless elevated retires at the age of 58, a High Court and a Supreme court Judge retires at the age of 65
